Portal News - Migration

I hope this isn’t news or a shock at this point – Rondak’s Portal will be down starting Saturday, 2018-01-27 0900 PST, to move back to a professionally hosted data center. This post gives a rough timeline of what is being done.

  • 2018-01-26: Change TTL on Rondak’s Portal DNS records to 10 minutes
  • 2018-01-27 0900: Shut down Rondak’s Portal web server and database. A maintenance notification will be put in place
  • 2018-01-27 0900: Begin dump of database for migration
  • 2018-01-27 0915: Update code in version control with the code actually currently deployed on the site
  • 2018-01-27 0930: Deploy Portal code to new server
  • 2018-01-27 1000: Update DNS entries to point to the new server, increase TTL of records back to 1 week
  • 2018-01-27: Once database dump is complete, transfer dumped file to new database
  • 2018-01-27: Once file transfer is complete, load database dump into new database instance
  • 2018-01-27, late afternoon: Bring Rondak’s Portal online for testing
  • 2018-01-27: Restore public access to Rondak’s Portal
