Kickstarters of Note

Hello again, fellow Portalites, and welcome to another round of Kickstarters of Note wherein I have found… well, a board game reincarnated, a card game and a possible addition to the GM’s – or author’s – toolbox. There’s probably a lot more; there are an assortment of miniatures being kickstarted, I saw at least one bust and there are a bunch of things that being launched this month. But today, I only have three I thought might interest you.

Cheapass Games Presents: Girl Genius: The Works

I didn’t name the game company, I’d just like to put that out there. In their defense, ‘cheapdonkey games’ doesn’t roll off the tongue nearly as well… and they sell some really nifty – and cheap! – games. I’m still very pleased with their Pairs! games; I do love my assortment of Pairs! decks.
This is a slightly different brand of card game. “What if everything in the world was a cog in a giant machine? That’s the idea behind Girl Genius: The Works, a unique strategy card game based on the world of Girl Genius.
The game is played on a 12-card tableau, representing the machine. Cards interact by flipping, spinning, and popping out of the machine. Cards can pop in chain reactions, and that might give you extra points, more cards, or other wacky effects!
If you like adventure, mad science, and innovative strategy, then Girl Genius: The Works is for you!”
It sounds like crazy, and as one of those people who reads the comic, I admit it, I’m intrigued by the mention of characters that haven’t appeared in the story!

Kris McDermott Presents: Squareware: RPG Dice Tools for Sparking the Creative Brain

Now, this is interesting. This is essentially a dice kit for creating plot. The creator is setting it up for GMs, but I see no reason whatever why an author couldn’t use these, or a player, or anyone else who’s got themselves stuck in a plot hole and needs a bit of a lift out.
The basic pledge is affordable, and gets you a full set plus stretch goals, and, barring Stuff, it looks like a really useful tool to add to the box. Ahh.. so to speak. ^^;

Restoration Games Presents: Fireball Island – 80’s Board Game, Reignited and Restored.

I apparently managed to miss this one, and I grew up in the 80’s. Not sure what that says about either me or my family, but I hear I missed out! If you have fond memories of what appears to be marble-filled.. fueled? .. chaos, grab a set while they’re… well. You know.
