GM’s Tip of the Week

Hey, guys. I’m kind of ill, so I’m just going to go with wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween, blessed Samhain and a happy Day of the Dead, for those of you sporting Calaveras and marigolds.

And if you’re tempted to do a themed game … if it doesn’t fit, don’t do it!

Wudinar’s Adventuring Guide

Not every villain needs to be killed. If it is possible to convince them to turn, that is almost always the preferred option.

Question of Sevens

The sword has always hung above the mantel, a family heirloom sheathed and displayed like just another trophy. But it’s always made you nervous to see it there … to the point where being in the same room with it is a trial.
Why?

Question of Sevens

Sorry it’s late, folks. But! we’re back up and running – yes, Rondak’s Portal is back online – and here is your very lateĀ  Query of Sevens!

That statue has always been there. It’s not particularly anything; not especially ugly or pretty, it’s just there. But of late, it never seems to be sitting quite the same way as it was the last time you looked at it…

GM’s Tip of the Week

A lot of Portal staff … roughly half of us, really, are gearing up to go rampaging off to a convention, so you’re getting a short one this week. And possibly no Kickstarter post; sorry ’bout that in advance.
In the meantime! Your GM’s Tip of the Week:
Don’t be afraid to toss it all and start over, especially if it’s an oldĀ pre-written module.

Clerics have a lot more uses than healing spells. They possess power over the living dead, ready access to summoning spells, a number of powerful blessings and curses, and reasonable skills with weapons. There are far worse travelling companions than a servant of the divine.

Question of Sevens

Every time you plug into the ‘Net, you swear you see things. Things that aren’t quite right, at the very edge of your vision. Looking at them, trying to follow them, there is nothing there …

Until there is.
What’s going on?

GM’s Tip of the Week

We have a lot of odd conversations in the car, Andi and I; some of them random, and then there are the days one of us stumbles over a thing with gaming, and has to mention it to the other. This time, it was Andi, shaking his head over an article about why it’s so hard to bring new players into a game. We’ve never had any of the problems cited, and I realized, as we were discussing it, that you guys might like to know that, and, more importantly, you might like to know why we’ve never had any of those problems.
And, maybe when you’ve all finished reading, you’ll share some of your tips, or a hilarious story about that one player.

Keep in mind not only who your opponents are, but what they are: unless the plan is on a schedule, a dragon antagonist can simply account for human interference by going to the ground for 20 years, and resume from there. At the same time, that’s 20 years to /really/ throw a wrench into the works, and many long-lived species tend to think of the rest of us as little flickers, with no significance. Use the opposition’s mindset against them, if possible.

Query of Sevens

For most people, an inheritance comes with the burden of losing family. For you, it comes with a piece of the lost relative hanging about.

How does that effect your life thereafter?
